Prince Nicholas Romanovich, the oldest living descendant of the Russian Imperial Family died on the 14th of September at his family home in Tuscany, his younger brother Prince Dimitri Romanovich reported to Itar-Tass. “This is a huge loss for us,” he said, noting that the place and time of the burial had not yet been decided.
Prince Nicholas Romanovich’s father, H.H. Prince Roman Petrovich of Russia was a second cousin and godson of the last Tsar, and his mother Countess Prascovia Dimitrievna Cheremeteff, was a daughter of Count Dimitri Cheremeteff, a childhood friend and adjutant to Emperor Nicholas II. Prince Nikolai Romanovich was born in Antibes, France, on September 26, 1922. Prince Nicholas Romanovich was a direct male descendant of HM Emperor Nicholas I Pavlovich.

What even prompted this? Was this a sudden game of tag? Did he insult his mom? Was there frolicking? Did he playfully steal something?
This is footage from the picnic where a surprise had been arranged for Nicholas: the head of security had his men make fake snowballs so that they could have a snowball fight in summer. :) You can see some of the cloth-and-straw snowballs on the ground.
